World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the global conservation organization, seeks a Program Officer for the TRAFFIC North America regional wildlife trade program. TRAFFIC is the international wildlife trade monitoring network, a joint program of WWF and IUCN - the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

Position Overview: 

The Program Officer will support the development, implementation and coordination of TRAFFIC's program and project interests for the North America region. TRAFFIC North America oversees TRAFFIC's work in the USA, Canada, Mexico, and has projects in Central America and the Caribbean. It also supports priority conservation programs related to trade in wildlife around the globe.

TRAFFIC works to ensure that trade in wild animals and plants is not a threat to the conservation of nature. TRAFFIC actively monitors and investigates wildlife trade and provides information to diverse audiences worldwide as a basis for effective conservation policies and programs.

Responsibilities: 

The Program Officer is responsible for selected project implementation and coordination, and supporting the development of TRAFFIC program interests relating to conservation of wildlife subject to trade and utilization. He /she will assist the regional team with program activities and will provide specialized expertise in subject areas of concern to the global program.

Program areas that the position may support include wildlife trade management and regulation capacity building, CITES trade studies, timber and fisheries trade traceability and transparency and legality frameworks, and wildlife trade awareness campaigns.

Qualifications: 

A bachelor's degree is required. A graduate degree in a related field is preferred, such as natural resource management/economics, environmental science, wildlife/conservation biology/policy, international development or related discipline.  Position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in program management, biodiversity conservation, wildlife / natural resources management, government agency capacity building, data analysis, or trade regulation in commodities such as timber or fisheries products.
