Program Manager - Community Engagement

BKi is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic professional to play a lead role on the newly created community engagement team. The Program Manager - Community Engagement will support implementation of residential energy retrofit programs in Southern California.

This role will manage a team in engaging and persuading the community about the benefits of energy efficient buildings including environmental soundness, comfort, and economy to operate.

This position requires excellent communication skills, proven management experience, demonstrated attention to detail and a passion for energy efficiency. The Program Manager - Community Engagement will manage four staff and report to the Division Director of our comprehensive building retrofit programs. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Program Manager will perform the following and other duties as assigned:

  • Conduct grassroots and grasstops outreach-reaching out to community leaders at the local level.
  • Manage four direct reports.
  • Support the development of consumer feedback mechanisms and leverage the resulting data to maximize program management effectiveness and goal achievement.
  • Provide program support for all aspects relating to successful implementation of regional building retrofit programs, including program budgets, schedules, and reporting.
  • Assist in implementation coordination with participating local governments.
  • Execute communication and marketing plans to ensure stakeholder buy-in.
  • Leverage all available marketing distribution channels, engage customer participation, and drive recruitment for program offerings.
  • Formulate, direct, and coordinate marketing activities and policies to promote residential energy retrofit programs, working with marketing consultants and partners.
  • Assist in the analysis of local market potential to inform program design and implementation strategies.
  • Support the Senior Program Manager in the development of effective management and coordination structures to implement all program elements and continually augment program recruitment rates.
  • Actively work with stakeholders, partners, and the public to continually discover and leverage communication channels and opportunities to exceed program goals.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have the following minimum qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience including two years of experience in project management, project design, staff management, budget management, client relationships, and quality assurance.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Superb communication skills, a personable and diplomatic demeanor in working with diverse constituencies and inspiring participation from partners, media outlets, and community members.
  • Enthusiasm for team work, and ability to work well with staff and volunteers to promote the program and energy efficiency values as a participatory activity.
  • Self-motivation and ability to multitask and lead a junior team of direct reports to extend the work.
  • Entrepreneurialism, creativity, and superb follow-through.
  • Analytical approach to work, constantly thinking in terms of iteration, testing, measurement, and redirection.
  • Excellent organizational and strategic skills.
  • Enjoyment working with a variety of social media tools and creative approaches to community engagement online, by phone, and in person.
  • Excellent public speaking skills, and high capability to give presentations to large audiences.
  • Experience in cause-driven campaigning, community organizing, and marketing.
  • Experience in designing and adapting marketing campaigns to changing environments.
  • Dedication to cost-effective use of program budgets and resources.
  • Proven success as a member of a highly effective project or program management team.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively in all sectors at all organizational levels in a professional, ethical, and nonpartisan manner.
  • Knowledge of energy efficient design, construction strategies, technologies and materials, and the ability to articulate the environmental, health, and economic benefits of green building.
  • Self-sufficient office skills: proficiency in the full MS Office Suite, Access® (or other database) experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel in Southern California area-travel consistently 80-90% (driving), clean driving record required.
