Description

The mission of the Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) is to promote energy efficiency, green building and environmental protection in the United States and abroad.  The organization's activities include technical and market research, educational outreach, and the crafting of building codes and other policy and program initiatives. IMT works to strengthen linkages among property value, green building and energy performance.

Internationally, IMT is working under contract with the United Nations Development Programme to promote energy efficiency in the building sectors of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic.

The term "market transformation" encompasses various strategies for the creation of permanent, self-sustaining success of energy-efficient technologies in the marketplace.  In contrast with traditional energy efficiency programs, which have focused on piecemeal procurement and installation of efficient technology, market transformation offers a strategic approach to shift entire market sectors toward a more efficient product mix.  Market transformation programs may focus on stimulation of consumer demand as well as supplier innovation.   The goal of market transformation is to change standard business practices. In the United States and other nations, market transformation has a growing track record of successful synergy with energy codes and standards.

IMT is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.  IMT was founded in 1996.

Position Overview:

The Institute for Market Transformation (IMT) is looking for a Program Manager to lead our work with green leasing and federal buildings. IMT's program aims to increase the energy efficiency of buildings by addressing the problem of split incentives between investor and energy end-user. The federal government's General Services Administration (GSA) is the government's main civilian landlord and building manager, with about 8,600 properties encompassing over 354 million square feet.

GSA operates under numerous legislative and executive mandates to green its buildings and increase their energy efficiency. IMT's program aims to change business as usual by working with GSA and other federal agencies to increase the energy efficiency of buildings owned and leased by the federal government.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage IMT's green leasing and federal buildings program, including program development, planning, analysis, and generation of reports for collaborators and funders
  • Provide advice and training on energy efficiency for commercial buildings, including the development of information packets and presentations
  • Act as a liaison between the federal government and private sector partners such as architects, engineers, leasing agents, building managers, and lawyers
  • Present to conferences on green leasing and federal requirements and preferences
  • Conduct research and analysis on "best practices" for building efficiency programs
  • Develop analytical models to illustrate the potential impact of policy recommendations

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in economics, business, law, or fields relevant to real estate
  • Experience with commercial leasing or green leasing
  • Experience with public policy analysis and research
  • Familiarity with building codes and terminology of energy use and energy conservation in buildings
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong writing and oral communication skills
  • Self-directed and demonstrated ability to manage projects independently
  • Strong organizational and time management skills

Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience.
