Position Background

CEE has a position for an associate to support CEE’s Evaluation Committee and research activities. The Program Associate: Evaluation and Research associate will assist in CEE’s Annual Industry Report project and report directly to the Evaluation, Research and Behavior Principal Program manager. The associate will assist with data analysis and reporting based on both original and publicly available datasets. This research effort is designed to document the size and scope of the natural gas and electric energy efficiency program industry, and this year will also explore other important drivers that can help us anticipate the future of the industry. The audience for this work includes manufacturers of high efficiency products, trade associations, utilities, efficiency professionals, and state energy regulators.

CEE works in partnership with the American Gas Association (AGA) to collect and analyze data on current-year program administrator budgets and previous year expenditures and energy savings. The project culminates in a report and data set, both of which are made available to the public. Prior years’ reports are available online. In addition to the Annual Industry Report, the associate will assist CEE staff in other research efforts aimed at understanding changing dynamics in energy system and demand side management program planning as energy efficiency programs are increasingly expected to serve goals other than simple energy reduction, such as carbon reduction and equity initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the ERB Principal Program Manager, conduct primary and secondary research and secure member support to time series reporting of industry data including the CEE Annual State of the Industry Report and CEE’s biennial survey of ENERGY STAR® Household Awareness.
• Assist with data analysis and visualization of industry data for the Annual Industry Report; knowledge of the R programming language is desired but not required for this task. Careful documentation of work is required - including any changes made to existing approach - with sufficient detail to ensure project consistency over time.
• Support data collection and analyses in support of CEE Evaluation Committee work efforts. Secure timely secondary research on topics such as program evaluation methods and behavioral persistence and assist in the development of program case studies.
• Prepare agendas, and facilitate member meetings via teleconference, in-person, and online through CEE’s extranet website and manage committee logistical needs.
• Provide support during the development of memoranda, reports, appropriate organization position papers and other professional written products in support of the organization’s needs.
• Research and propose relevant sessions in support of CEE’s member and industry partners meetings.  Staff the meetings.
• Provide administrative support to the ERB team Principal Program Manager and other Evaluation and Research tasks, as assigned.

Requirements

• A Master’s degree (or Bachelor’s and equivalent experience) in a relevant field, such as economics, engineering, environmental studies, statistics or quantitative assessment, behavioral economics or another field requiring critical thinking and strong analytical capabilities
• Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to balance multiple priorities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills,
• Strong people skills, service orientation, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to contribute to all facets of organizational need ranging from independent research, facilitation, administrative tasks, and other duties
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access), Familiarity with Salesforce is desired but nor required. 
• Demonstrated research and data analysis skills; ability to analyze and synthesize quantitative information for different audiences.
• Willingness and ability to travel to support the needs of the position and organization
• Strong statistical aptitude, such as previous work doing statistical analyses
• Work experience in the energy efficiency industry is a plus
