PowerSave Schools is a comprehensive program for K-12 schools that works with students, faculty, and administrators to engage students in project-based, real-world learning activities that encourage energy-conserving behavior at school and in the community, save school districts money on energy costs, and help build the green workforce pipeline. ~

Position Overview

The Alliance to Save Energy is seeking a full-time Program Associate in our Los Angeles, CA office to support implementation of the California PowerSave Schools Program and provide general administrative support for a bi-coastal Education Team that includes staff based in Washington D.C. and the Southeast. 

Candidates for this position should have a good eye for detail and, at the same time, be capable of seeing the bigger picture. In addition, the Program Associate must have exceptionally strong written and oral communication skills, along with experience in project planning and implementation, public speaking, and meeting facilitation. 

A background in education and experience working in environmental education is desirable, as is a solid understanding of energy efficiency concepts and technologies. The position is primarily office-based with occasional work directly with students.   A background in program administration is preferred, with a strong commitment of environmental sustainability. Candidates should be self-starters who can juggle multiple tasks with a minimum of supervision and guidance. 

Responsibilities

Program Associate duties and responsibilities include:

 PowerSave Schools Program Support

  • Track progress and assist with implementation of PowerSave Schools deliverables
  • Prepare, update, and track completion required program documents
  • Write and edit monthly narrative report for program funders
  • Facilitate communications with PowerSave Schools Local Project Leaders, subcontractors, funders, and other program stakeholders in Southern California
  • Track budgets, prepare invoices and expense reports, facilitate subcontracts with program subcontractors, and track subcontractor invoices
  • Facilitate, coordinate, and support implementation of the Student Energy Audit Training (SEAT) program
  • Participate in planning, implementation, and facilitation of program meetings and events
  • Research emerging energy technologies and education opportunities as applicable to K-12 schools and develop new projects
  • Develop and maintain website updates and other marketing materials
  • Coordinate travel and meeting logistics for events as necessary
  • Responsible for small-office management, including ordering supplies, managing internal office vendor accounts (internet, water, phone system), and overseeing office intern as needed

Other responsibilities:

  • Support other Alliance education program activities and administrative tasks as needed
  • Collaborate with Alliance Education Team members to share program updates, develop new initiatives, draft program proposals, and fulfill Education Team responsibilities (e.g. participate in strategic planning, help maintain website, update materials, and other communications)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree; a Master’s degree a plus
  • 1-2 years relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is a plus
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Dedication to environmental causes

  • Education background, understanding curriculum design, K-12 administration a plus        

Compensation: Will be commensurate with experience, and includes excellent benefits (health, dental, vision, 403-b).
