Description
The Sustainable Energy and Economy Network (SEEN), a project of the Institute for Policy Studies (Washington, DC) and the Transnational Institute (Amsterdam), works in partnership with citizens groups nationally and globally on environment, human rights and development issues with a particular focus on energy, climate change, environmental justice, gender equity, and economic issues, particularly as these play out in North/South relations.
One method we use to achieve positive change is to develop compelling research and materials that challenge fossil fuel mining and consumption and the public funds that are used to subsidize them.
Our research has focused largely on the international financial institutions and corporate actors involved in fossil fuel project development. Increasingly, we are also monitoring false solutions to climate change, while helping to catalyze viable alternatives at the national and international level. The program associate will work with the co-directors in this effort.
Job Duties:
- Monitor World Bank and other international financial institutions' roles in financing fossil fuels, carbon trades, and climate change advocacy or activity;
- Assist with research and writing of reports, op-eds, articles, video documentaries, other forms of analysis of environmental, human rights problems and militarization associated with fossil fuel exploitation;
- Attend meetings, networks with national groups and partner organizations;
- Assist in planning, executing, outreach for meetings, conferences and other events; and
- Maintain SEEN's database and website.
IPS offers a generous benefits package that includes full health and dental coverage, personal and sick leave, and a retirement plan.
IPS is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer and encourages applications from people of color, women, and other groups that have historically been subject to discrimination.
