Production Assistant II

~ Real Food Farm is Civic Works' innovative
urban agricultural enterprise engaged in growing fresh produce on six acres of
land in Clifton Park in northeast Baltimore. ~

Position Overview

We are pleased to announce we are
looking to fill a full-time AmeriCorps Production Assistant II position from April
- October 2014. The Production Assistant position requires 30 hours per week on average from April to October. 

The Production Assistant II will gain extensive first-hand knowledge of sustainable, organic farming practices, volunteer management skills, and food retail experience. Real Food Farm will support and encourage opportunities for professional development in the sustainable agriculture field during the term. 

General Responsibilities

Under supervision of the Farm
Manager, the Production Assistant II assists all daily work
and food production activities at the farm. 

Primary responsibilities
include:

• Help implement
  weekly planting schedule
• Assist with
  harvesting, weeding, planting and other daily duties;
• Managing insect
  and weed control
• Carrying out
  general field observation
• Managing youth
  and adult volunteer labor
• Staffing a weekly
  farmers market stand 

Qualifications 

• Successful candidate should
  have a strong interest in food systems, nutrition, public health, environmental
  studies or sustainable agriculture.
• Employee must be and remain drug free.
• Candidate must be able to lift 40 lbs and work in varying weather conditions.
• In
  order to be a Civic Works AmeriCorps member, you must be: at least 17 years
  old; a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident; and able to
  pass a drug test and sex offender registry check.   

Compensation: This position is a 675-hour Civic Works AmeriCorps position which includes a modest biweekly stipend, skills training, health insurance, and an education award upon completion of service - and surplus produce is available for all farm team members on a weekly basis!
