Position Overview 

PennFuture seeks an experienced and inspirational leader for the position of President and Chief Executive Officer (the “CEO”). The CEO reports to the Board of Directors of PennFuture and directs a 22-member staff located in four offices: Harrisburg (the preferred venue for the next CEO), Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Wilkes-Barre. 

• The next CEO of PennFuture will have a solid platform of achievements on which to build and lead PennFuture’s Board, staff, funders, members, and partnering organizations in addressing the challenges and developing the opportunities currently facing the organization as it evolves.

• These include raising financial resources from additional funders who recognize the substantial benefits they derive from PennFuture’s efforts, refining the organization’s strategic priorities in the context of both political and technological changes, and reforming the internal structures of the organization to effect even greater cohesion and efficiency.

• The executive role at PennFuture presents an exceptionally attractive opportunity for an energetic, optimistic, and forward-thinking leader. 

• PennFuture intends to select a candidate who has significant experience leading a comparable organization in the private, public or independent sector and drawing the most from the available human and financial resources to achieve measurable results.

• The successful candidate will have demonstrated a passion for the conservation of natural resources and the development of a “green” economy, will have a solid knowledge of legislative and legal processes, and will be skilled in public communications and media relations. 

Qualifications and Experience 

For its CEO PennFuture seeks an exceptional leader who is passionate about the organization’s mission, committed to its standards of excellence, and farsighted and optimistic about its future potential.

The position calls for vision, breadth, and good judgment; proven intellectual leadership skills; an enthusiasm for fund raising; demonstrated financial and staff management experience; and a collaborative leadership style that can motivate all participants within a mission-driven culture. 

The following qualifications are of particular interest: 

• Significant experience at the executive level in leading a non-profit organization or a comparable organization in the private or government sector;

• Experience working with a non-profit organization board of directors, as a direct report, indirect report, or member of such a board;

• Knowledge of the legislative process and the legal system and litigation processes;

• Significant fund-raising experience or comparable relationship-building and marketing experience;

• Intellectual curiosity and creativity; a certain broad mindedness that enjoys “out-of-the-box” thinking;

• Public relations and communications skills of the highest order; and

• Familiarity and experience in supporting excellence in information technology and using IT to communicate with and strengthen PennFuture’s constituency, to fundraise, and to use social media to advance the mission of Penn Future.
