Description
Duties:
- Developing and implementing CPI policy and
advocacy campaigns to promote economic justice. - This position includes
working with allies to develop state and local campaigns, conducting
policy and strategic research, developing policy recommendations,
planning and carrying out outreach, education and advocacy programs,
developing educational materials and monitoring key agencies and
legislation.
Current Programs:
The Policy and Advocacy Director is responsible for leading and
participating in campaigns in each of CPIs core advocacy areas.
This
position will have lead responsibilities in the Living Wage and
Contingent Work campaigns.
- Living wages: Wage and benefit standards in public decision making.
- Contingent Work: Develop statewide network and policy campaigns
to limit contingent work. - Accountable Development: Ensuring development includes
community benefits.
Core responsibilities of the Policy and Advocacy Director include:
- Develop and lead advocacy program for Living Wage policy including
developing trainings and education for policy makers, and preparing
materials and fact sheets to support campaign - Lead policy research and development working with consultants,
staff, and core partners. - Identify and secure support for campaign among diverse
constituencies. - Coordinate development of California Contingent Work Network
including recruiting organizations to join the network; developing
education and campaign programs on significant policy initiatives;
coordinating Continent Work Network Newsletter and other advocacy
and organizing tasks. - Have a working knowledge of all CPI campaigns, key issues and policy
agenda to be able to provide testimony and represent CPI positions.
Qualifications:
This position requires demonstrated competence and/or experience in
the following areas:
- Understanding of legislative and administrative processes at the local
and state level - Masters degree or commensurate experience in Policy, political
science, public administration or other related field. - Advocacy and/or campaign experience
- Familiarity and experience working with or for unions
- Strategic and campaign planning
- The ability to lead and work well in collaborative teams.
- Excellent communications skills including: writing, public speaking and
preparation of training materials and visual aids - Commitment to the mission of the Center on Policy Initiatives
