Save Our Wild Salmon (SOS) is a nationwide coalition of conservation organizations, commercial and sport fishing associations, businesses, river groups, and taxpayer advocates. Our current priority is an exciting national campaign to restore endangered salmon and steelhead in the Snake and Columbia River Basin by partially removing four dams on the Lower Snake River. The Coalition has offices in Seattle WA; Portland, OR; Boise, ID; Spokane, WA; and Washington, DC

DEFINITION:
Full-time staff position responsible for projects associated with policy and legal components of Save Our Wild Salmon's Columbia and Snake Rivers campaign, including Congressional and Administration policy contact. The Policy Analyst will also have lead staff responsibility for the campaign's economic mitigation proposals for dam removal impacts, for liaison responsibilities with the scientific community, or for the policy components of contact with and support from labor representatives.

REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors degree in an appropriate discipline, experience in policy advocacy and with multi-organizational campaigns, and knowledge of environmental and natural resource policy and law. Congressional, scientific, labor, and economic experience is a plus. Position requires excellent written and oral communication skills, coordinating diverse groups of people, and extreme attention to detail. Strong time management skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to juggle competing priorities are essential. Law or advanced degree a plus. Experience may substitute for education.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Work with Policy Director to develop positions and strategies on various policy matters in the campaign, including but not limited to economic mitigation packages and strategies for communities affected by dam removal.

- Develop documents to communicate policy and legal information to decision-makers and campaign leaders. Documents include one-page fact sheets for use in policy and outreach arenas, comments on Administration/agency documents, multi-paged reports detailing policy positions and information, and updates for campaign leaders on policy and legal developments.

- Work with Policy and Outreach Directors and staff to coordinate regional leader and grassroots activist visits to Congressional offices. This includes preparing appropriate materials for such visits.

- Work with the Outreach Director and outreach staff to ensure effective coordination between outreach and policy aspects of the campaign's contacts with organized labor, scientists, or economists.

- Assist the Policy Director in representing SOS and the campaign before the Administration, Congress, media, and public forums.

- Assist in developing and implementing SOS and campaign efforts to restore wild salmon in the Columbia River and its non-Snake tributaries.

- Assist the Policy Director with other activities as needed.

Salary is $30,000-$35,000 DOE plus full benefits. Save Our Wild Salmon is an equal opportunity employer.
