BGCI was established in 1987 to link the botanic gardens of the world in a global network for plant conservation. BGCI is an independent UK charity with its head office located at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew.

BGCI’s membership and larger network has grown consistently over the years, and now includes more than 500 botanic gardens in 96 countries, on every continent. Our aim is to unite botanic gardens and other organisations committed to saving the world’s threatened plants.

BGCI supports the development and implementation of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC) at a global, regional, national, and local level. We work directly with our members and other plant conservation organisations, carrying out threat assessments, seed conservation, ecological restoration, plant health and education projects around the world.

Position Overview

Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI) is seeking to appoint an early career conservationist with outstanding conservation, communication and networking skills in the position of Plant Conservation Project Manager, to develop, fundraise for and manage a portfolio of plant conservation projects.

Hours: Full time (35 hours per week).

Location: BGCI Offices, Kew, Richmond, Surrey, U.K.

Job Specifications

  • Candidates for this post will have a relevant postgraduate qualification and a proven track record in a conservation organisation, managing or leading conservation projects, ideally in the international NGO sector.
  • The post holder will be fluent in English and in either Spanish or French, and able to demonstrate sensitivity to complex, multicultural and multinational institutions and structures.
  • Working within a partnership model, candidates must be able to show their capacity to innovate and develop projects and partnerships collaboratively, building BGCI’s portfolio of plant conservation projects.
  • They must also be able to inspire BGCI’s members around the world, and have competent IT skills, working with BGCI’s databases and website.

Compensation: Remuneration is £25,000-30,000 per annum, depending on experience.
