Sonoma County's Regional Parks Department is seeking an experienced and talented Park Planning Manager to lead the Department's efforts in long-range planning, program development, and inter-agency collaboration.
Job Overview:
The incumbent will be in charge of functional and master planning, acquisition, and design and development of land for parks, recreation, resource protection and regional trails.
A critical responsibility will be moving the Department towards a more regional focus, establishing and developing partnerships with outside agencies such as the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District.
Environmental compliance and grant acquisition for park expansion and improvement projects are key to the success of this effort.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position will possess a baccalaureate degree in planning, natural resources, landscape architecture, architecture, engineering or related fields and a minimum of four years of increasingly responsible experience in managing professional planning, design, and construction of large park and recreation areas and facilities.
Experience in public sector and/or on a regional level is highly desirable.
The Regional Parks Department:
The Regional Parks Department provides public access to over 41 parks and open spaces. The department is in a strategic planning process aimed at modernizing its ability to acquire and develop facilities and improve service.
The Department plans, develops, operates, maintains, and administers activities of the County's community parks, campgrounds, swimming facilities, seven Veterans Memorial Auditoriums and two Marinas. The Regional Parks System receives an estimated 4.1 million visitors annually.
Annual Salary:
$85,284 - $103,668 (Pending Board of Supervisors' approval. Includes 3.5% COLA effective June 21, 2006.)
