The National Forest Foundation (NFF), chartered by Congress, engages Americans in community-based and national programs that promote the health and public enjoyment of the 193-million-acre National Forest System, and administers private gifts of funds and land for the benefit of the National Forests.
Our National Forests and Grasslands are at the core of America's natural riches, and yet, today these treasures are threatened by unprecedented challenges. Working with the U.S. Forest Service and partners, our goal is to leverage our best thinking, conservation capacity and community action to measurably improve the health of our National Forests and Grasslands.
Position Overview:
National conservation organization seeks Pacific Northwest Development Manager. Position will help to build capacity and raise funds/resources to accomplish its expanding portfolio of projects focused on Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and Idaho.
Responsibilities:
- Expanding the base of private sector partners and supporters by actively pursuing funding sources and creating new development opportunities.
- Cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding current and potential donors, resulting in increased charitable contributions and stronger relationships.
- Supporting the NFF individual giving program regionally and implementing strategies that convert regular donors to more engaged, higher-end supporters.
- Building and sustaining strong relations with charitable private and corporate foundations through ongoing, clear communications.
- Researching prospects, writing proposals (as well as proposal submission tracking, reporting , and program evaluation).
- Working with the Northwest regional director and board members in the region to create a Pacific Northwest donor council aimed at increasing the number of major donors in the region.
- Developing ways to educate and inform the donor community in the Northwest about the values of their National Forests and the importance of citizen participation.
Qualifications:
NFF expects the incumbent to possess the following educational and experiential qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years' experience with proven results in a diversity of development or closely related initiatives.
- Experience in direct (external) cultivation, solicitation, and/or stewardship.
- A demonstrated understanding of regional forest and conservation issues.
- Commitment to the mission of the National Forest Foundation.
- Excellent communication skills, especially writing and editing.
- Experience conducting donor research, developing proposals, and communicating with funders.
- Bachelor's degree.

- Ability to represent the NFF in a clear and professional manner through excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to cultivate, solicit and steward current and potential grantors and donors through excellent interpersonal skills, experience and judgment.
- Ability to collaboratively design, develop, implement and manage a set of goals and objectives through excellent research and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage programs and evaluate their outcomes against quantifiable measures of success.
- Ability to effectively set priorities, while directing the management of a variety of projects and tasks to successful completion.
- Ability to work well, and be flexible, in a team-oriented environment.
