Union of Concerned Scientists is a partnership of citizens and scientists working to preserve our health, protect our safety, and enhance our quality of life. UCS was founded in 1969 and currently has a membership and activist base of over 100,000, a staff of 100, and offices in Cambridge (MA), Washington (DC), and Berkeley (CA).
The UCS is seeking a temporary, full-time Outreach Assistant in its Berkeley, California office to provide outreach and some research and administrative support to the California Global Warming, Clean Vehicles, and Clean Energy programs.
The Outreach Assistant will help with: event planning, building alliances with community activists, recruiting and engaging of scientists and other UCS supporters and members, legislative and regulatory campaigns, and other activities. Funding for this position is guaranteed through September 30, 2006.
Qualifications Required:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent
* Intermediate/advanced skills in word processing and database use
* Familiarity with event planning
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Attention to detail
* Demonstrated ability to handle fast-paced, team-oriented work environment
Preferred: Spanish and English fluency; Experience working with communities of color; Electronic advocacy experience; Experience with global warming, air pollution, environmental health, and/or environmental justice issues in California; Master's degree in a related field.
