The San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory (SFBBO) is seeking a full-time Outreach and Membership Coordinator. SFBBO is a non-profit corporation located in Milpitas, CA and dedicated to the conservation of birds and their habitats through science and outreach. Established in 1981, SFBBO has 31 years of experience conducting avian research and monitoring in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Our Outreach Program is a key component of our organization by actively providing opportunities for people to be directly involved in the natural history and science of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Position Overview:
The Outreach & Membership Coordinator is responsible for maintaining communications, developing outreach events, and being a representative of SFBBO. The Outreach & Membership Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and may oversee volunteers.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates, develops, and maintains annual outreach calendar. Includes recruiting event volunteers and scheduling bird walks, banding demonstrations, off-site lectures, special events, and other membership benefits.
- Produces the quarterly Bay Bird Review newsletter with the assistance of the SFBBO staff.
- Coordinates monthly electronic newsletter, maintains website content, and engages our audience using SFBBO social media sites.
- Works with staff and volunteers to implement fundraising events, including the annual California Fall Challenge Fundraiser.
- Enters all donor and member information, and all donations amounts into our donor database (Exceed). Generates membership renewal notices and all member/donor thank you letters.
- Acts as SFBBO's volunteer contact. Recruits volunteers, creates and/or modifies job descriptions and ensures proper placement and utilization of volunteers within SFBBO's programs.
- Maintains photo library, recruits photographers, and secures photo rights for SFBBO use. Oversees photo library volunteer.
Qualifications:
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual with a personal commitment to avian conservation science to promote our mission and activities. Candidates should possess the following qualifications:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- An interest in science and how it relates to avian conservation
- Familiarity with Bay Area ecosystems and birds
- Experience designing or maintaining website and producing website and newsletter content
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage volunteers
- Dedication to donor confidentiality and database integrity
- Personable, friendly, and outgoing individual with a desire to help a small nonprofit succeed in its mission
- Bachelors-level education
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
The following qualifications would be assets:
- Degree in ecology or a related field with an ornithology emphasis or extensive experience in field ornithology.
- Proficiency in Dreamweaver for web design.
- Experience working in a non-profit organization
- Experience with fundraising, PR, or media relations
Compensation: Salary will be determined based upon the successful candidate's level of experience. SFBBO offers a competitive benefits package with health care, dental, and vision coverage, plus 20 days paid time off/year. Some weekend and evening work may be required.
