Description
~ Featherstone Farm is a 135 acre certified organic farm located in the bluff country in and around Rushford, Minnesota. The farm produces fresh market vegetables and fruits for distribution to natural food stores, wholesalers, and a 1000+ member Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. ~
Position Overview
Featherstone Farm is seeking one or more qualified individuals to join its organic vegetable horticulture team. This is a full time, year round position with significant responsibility for the planning and management of vegetable plantings from early spring through late fall. A minimum 2 season commitment is required.
Schedule:
- Horticulturalist(s) must be present at Featherstone Farm, ready for full time engagement, by February 1, 2014.
- Earlier employment and engagement is also a possibility (starting November 1, 2013 or beyond).
- Horticulturalists work a 50+ hour week in season (early April through late October), with alternating Saturdays off. Off season / winter hours are considerably more flexible.
Qualifications
- Qualified applicants will have a minimum of 2 full seasons experience working directly with field production of organic vegetables.
- Academic background in horticulture, agronomy or related agricultural science a major plus.
- Demonstrated ability to operate farm equipment (tillage, seeding, cultivating and harvesting equipment, among others) also a significant benefit.
- Conversational Spanish very desirable.
- Featherstone Farm highly values good communication and team-work skills for all employees.
- The horticulturalist position also requires someone able to work in a very focused, detail and data intensive way; follow through in every aspect of plan administration is just as important as design of the plan itself.
Compensation: Salary and housing based on experience and responsibility level. Flex schedule in winter. Free produce year round. A positive, engaging work environment.
