Position Overview: 

EnerNOC has an immediate need for a Network Administrator in our Boston Network Operations Center, responsible for enabling and maintaining our distributed network of energy metering devices across 8,000+ customer sites. Our Network Team is responsible for establishing internet-based communication with all new customer sites and for maintaining reliable and secure communications at existing sites.

The mission of the Network Operation Center (NOC) is to provide capacity to the grid by reducing customers' electricity consumption on an emergency basis.  EnerNOC is also an industry leader in growing Energy Efficiency, Carbon Management, and Energy Procurement businesses. In order to provide these services, we meter energy demand at each of our 8000+ customer sites and, at many sites, we use this connection to remotely reduce our customers' energy consumption. A robust and highly available network, therefore, is the foundation of our business, and it is critical for this network to be operational at all times.

Responsibilities:

Within this context, the candidate will specifically be responsible for:

  • Design, configure and manage network connectivity including the routers and firewalls servicing the EnerNOC data centers located in Boston and Dallas.
  • Engineering and enabling communications with new customer sites
  • Monitor and manage customer facing connectivity ( VPN, wired, wireless, etc).
  • Measuring and tracking the stability, availability, and security of the network
  • Coordinating time critical troubleshooting with site technicians to ensure maximum customer participation during demand response events
  • Proactively maintaining connectivity to our wide area network of customer sites
  • Performing root cause analysis and permanent error cause removal of connectivity and data collection problems
  • Identifying and engineering solutions to remediate security risks within the network.

Qualifications: 

Required Qualifications/Skills/Education:

  • BA/BS in computer networking, engineering, computer science or other technical field
  • Excellent networking and computer skills, including experience with cellular communications, routers, firewalls, network address translation, and customer facing VPN/networks.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Desire to develop expertise in Demand Response and Energy Management
  • Initiative, resourcefulness and the ability to work in a fast-paced, flexible, team environment
  • Ability to manage high-stress situations calmly and effectively
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work, balancing long term projects with short term time sensitive issues.

Desired Qualifications/Skills/Education:

  • Masters in computer networking, engineering, computer science or other technical field
  • Experience with ITIL, COBIT or other service delivery methodologies CCNA, CCNP, CCSP or similar certifications
  • Experience with Business Process Excellence methodologies
  • Experience working with energy management, power generation, and related technologies
