Job Description:
Assists with the daily operations of the High Park Nature Centre and helps to deliver nature interpretation programs for summer groups.
Responsibilities:
- Provides support for other Nature Centre staff in developing and implementing programs and activities relating to outdoor education for booked groups and the general public.
- Coordinates and operates summer family events.
- Assists with daily operation and management of the Nature Centre.
- Assists with the administrative duties and maintenance of facilities and grounds.
- Prepares displays and activity materials.
- Liaises with volunteers, user groups and the public.
- Liaises with and reports to Nature Centre Coordinator.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Applicant must be attending or returning to an educational institution
- Aged 16 - 25
- Eligible to work in Canada and possess a valid S.I.N card.
- Experience working with environmental and/or outdoor education programs, especially for children.
- Ability to work independently and in groups.
- Ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages, especially children.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm for conservation and environmental education initiatives.
- Comfortable speaking to large groups.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as necessary.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certificate preferred.
- Knowledge of a second language (French, Spanish or Cantonese) is desirable.
- Working knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Windows).
Period of Employment:
- This is an 11-week summer placement position running from 23rd June to 29th August 2003.
- Summer staff will be required to work a 35-hour week, which will include working some weekend events.
