Nature Interpreter Summer Interns (2)

Job Description:

Assists with the daily operations of the High Park Nature Centre and helps to deliver nature interpretation programs for summer groups.

Responsibilities:

• Provides support for other Nature Centre staff in developing and implementing programs and activities relating to outdoor education for booked groups and the general public.
• Coordinates and operates summer family events.
• Assists with daily operation and management of the Nature Centre.
• Assists with the administrative duties and maintenance of facilities and grounds.
• Prepares displays and activity materials.
• Liaises with volunteers, user groups and the public.
• Liaises with and reports to Nature Centre Coordinator.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Applicant must be attending or returning to an educational institution
• Aged 16 - 25
• Eligible to work in Canada and possess a valid S.I.N card.
• Experience working with environmental and/or outdoor education programs, especially for children.
• Ability to work independently and in groups.
• Ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages, especially children.
• Demonstrates enthusiasm for conservation and environmental education initiatives.
• Comfortable speaking to large groups.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends as necessary.
• Current CPR and First Aid Certificate preferred.
• Knowledge of a second language (French, Spanish or Cantonese) is desirable.
• Working knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Windows).

Period of Employment:

• This is an 11-week summer placement position running from 23rd June to 29th August 2003.
• Summer staff will be required to work a 35-hour week, which will include working some weekend events.
