Description
Strawberry Hill Nature Center and Preserve is seeking a full-time seasonal intern to assist with its environmental education programs and natural resource management projects. The internship lasts from late August through early December.
Strawberry Hill is a 609-acre preserve and nature center located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Pennsylvania. It offers visitors more than 10 miles of trails that explore a variety of habitats from streams and wetlands to woods and rock outcrops. Strawberry Hill is looking for the right person to assist with all facets of running a small non-profit nature center.
Responsibilities:
Teach students of all ages in both the field and classroom.
Maintain nature center, including exhibits, displays, and live animals (including snakes).
Greet visitors to the nature center. Represent the center at off-site events.
Perform basic office duties.
Assist with natural resource management projects and basic trail maintenance.
Other responsibilities as directed by Education Coordinator or Preserve Manager
Qualifications:
Previous experience working with groups of children. Teaching experience is a plus.
Enthusiasm for and a basic knowledge of the natural world are important.
Ability to walk/hike the main teaching trails on the preserve.
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in a wide range of weather conditions.
Excellent communication skills.
Enthusiastic self-starter who enjoys working in a small organization.
Stipend: Benefits include private housing (a cottage by a singing stream) and a $150/week stipend. Intern must have own car.
