Position Overview:
Beckett & Raeder, Inc. is seeking a Natural Resource Project Manager. The ideal candidate is a leader who would complement talented staff, expand their capabilities, and work on their successful interdisciplinary wetland, wildlife, botanical and restoration projects. We are seeking a dynamic individual, capable of managing staff, conducting field surveys, oversee and mentor junior staff, and provide technical guidance to other project professionals; someone with excellent contacts and relationships within the regulatory agencies and with a proven track record of undertaking sound scientific work and delivering high quality technical documentation.
This position requires excellent verbal communication and writing skills and the desire to assist our clients in the continued growth of the biology practice. A successful candidate will utilize these skills to provide technical guidance, conduct protocol level surveys, compliance monitoring, prepare or review technical reports and interact and coordinate with natural resource regulatory agencies. Responsibilities:
Job duties and responsibilities include managing all aspects of natural resources projects and tasks including:
- Wetlands inventory, mitigation, delineation, assessment and restoration;
- Woodlands inventory and assessment;
- Woodlands mitigation and restoration plans;
- Conduct fieldwork, manage budgets, prepare proposals, reports, and other technical documents;
- Oversee and perform all aspects of field research, data collection and analysis;
- Assist in business development, establish project procedures and budgetary restraints, and follow those outlined by other staff to assure that projects are completed within budget and on time;
- Manage the financial performance of individual projects and effectively coordinate with clients;
- Supervise, direct and instruct field personnel;
- Take initiative, resolve problems, and create improved procedures to assure tasks are completed in the most effective manner;
- Work closely with Beckett & Raeder's other managers throughout the company to promote Beckett & Raeder's business interests in adherence to our mission, vision, and values.
Qualifications:
Requirements include a minimum of a BS in biology, botany, ecology, natural resource management, zoology, or other related field; Master degree preferred; 7-9 years of experience in fieldwork, report completion, as well as scheduling and budgeting of natural resource projects; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Exceptional technical writing skills with a record of completing technical reports in a timely manner; Solid working knowledge of federal and Michigan state laws; Expert knowledge of Michigan flora and fauna; Experience reviewing and evaluating groundwater and stormwater plans and developing appropriate strategies; Ability to lead field survey crews and manage small and large tasks; and ability to peer-review technical documents.
