Description
Peace Brigades International (PBI) creates space for peace
by providing protective accompaniment to organizations
and individuals working for human rights so they can
carry out their crucial work unharassed by hostile interests.
We maintain critical relationships with governments and
citizens around the world - ensuring awareness of the
developing situation in the countries where we work.
Currently PBI has projects in Columbia, Guatemala,
Indonesia and Mexico
PBI was founded in Canada in 1981. PBI-Canada is now
one of many country groups that provide support for the
projects by raising funds, supporting project volunteers and
maintaining relationships with the public and the Canadian
government.
PBI-Canada is a grassroots non-governmental organization
with a small operating budget. The National Coordinator
is the central staff position at PBI-Canada. Though we
have plans to expand the size of our staff, the successful
candidate will initially coordinate all office tasks. We are
seeking a motivated with a breadth of skills who can
run the organization on a daily basis and help grow and
diversify our funding base. The successful applicant
will be assisted and guided in their tasks by the active
participation of our volunteer board of directors, the
National Coordinating Committee (NCC).
The National Coordinator will work from an office in
downtown Toronto with occasional travel to Ottawa
and other locations as necessary.
Responsibilities:
Coordinate office functions
Office administration
Grant research, coordinating and writing grants
and donor appeals
Government, funder and donor relations
Responding to urgent in-country situations
Liaise with and advise the National Coordinating Committee (NCC)
Keep up to date on national conflicts where PBI is located
and work with PBI project representatives in Canada
Update PBI-Canada website
Respond to enquiries and administration requirements
of the PBI International Office, Project offices, and
other country groups
Public outreach and communication
Coordinate and write material for PBI-Canada newsletter
Organize and promote PBI-Canada public events, training,
speaking tours of returned volunteers, and delegations
Maintain database of supporters and donors
Qualifications:
Self-motivated and ability to work independently
Grant writing and fundraising experience
Demonstrated commitment to peace work and non-violence
Experience in the NGO sector, preferably in a position
of responsibility
Financial management experience
Knowledge of Latin American and Asian history/politics
an asset
Ability to work with consensus-based decision making
Written and oral Spanish skills an asset (other languages
also of value)
Website management skills and asset
