Project Location: Oregon City, Oregon
Position Overview:
Clackamas County is seeking a Multifamily Sustainability Project Coordinator to work in the Office of Sustainability located in Oregon City. The primary duties will be to encourage multifamily communities to participate in waste and energy reduction programs. Between state mandated recycling and waste reduction programs and new federally funded energy projects, there is considerable work on our horizon.
Clackamas County's Office of Sustainability is committed to using, developing and protecting resources in a manner which enables people to meet their current needs as well as those of future generations.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions (to include, but not limited to):
- Implement programs designed to move property managers and residents from knowledge to action.
- Distribute educational materials/promotional materials to property managers and residents.
- Develop ongoing outreach strategy for recycling, waste reduction, energy efficiency and water conservation education.
- Work with communities to develop waste reduction strategies such as a furniture exchange program.
- Promote successful case studies to communities not currently engaged in waste and energy reduction programs.
- Strategize on what additional sustainability measures would be helpful to multifamily communities.
- Serve on the Metro Multifamily Workgroup Committee to develop, schedule and host 2 resource and conservation workshops, one on the East Side of the metro region and the other on the West Side.
- Staff community events and deliver presentations engaging citizens on issues of sustainability
- Provide a conduit to property managers for delivery of energy saving resources such as Energy Trust of Oregon, utility companies, and State energy tax credits.
- Track outreach and actions taken in a manner that will meet regional and federal reporting requirements.
- Complete and submit all necessary Clackamas County Office of Sustainability, NWSA and AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
- Wear an NWSA uniform and/or appropriate identifiers and required safety gear while performing service or attending official events.
Qualifications:
Position Requirements:
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Deliver excellent customer service in a timely manner.
- Effectively use word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate complex problems and devise solutions.
- Ability to prepare and deliver oral presentations to both public and private groups.
- Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record and ability to provide documentation.
- Applicant must be 18 years of age or older at beginning of service term.
- U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
- Ability to commit to the full term of service for which you are applying.
- Successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check provided through NWSA and/or Project Sponsor Agency.
- Regular and reliable attendance.
- Have not previously served 2 terms in an AmeriCorps*State or National program. Members may serve up to 3 terms in a National Service Program, but only 2 terms may be within an AmeriCorps*State or National program. Members are only eligible for an education award for their first 2 terms of service, regardless of the type of term (full or part-time) and regardless of the successful completion of that term.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of sustainability, solid waste and waste reduction methods, programs and activities.
- Ability to speak Spanish a plus, but not required.
- Community organizing experience.
- Research, planning and project management skills.
- Knowledge of energy efficiency actions and benefits.
- Experience working with diverse communities.
Compensation:
- A taxable, monthly living allowance (before taxes, approximately $1,250).
- Training fund of up to $500.
- Upon successful completion of a term of service, eligible members receive an education award of $4,725. The education award can be used to repay qualified student loans, for further education in an accredited institution of higher learning, vocational or trade schools. The education award is taxed in the year that it is used.
- Loan forbearance (after successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps will pay the accrued interest on qualified loans, which is taxable).
- Basic medical insurance (covers members only, not dependents; vision and dental not included).
- Child care allowance for those who qualify.
- Clackamas County's Office of Sustainability provides the opportunity to become part of a team of individuals equally committed to service to the environment and to the community.
Transportation Information:
- Personal vehicle is recommended to get to service site.
- Organizational vehicle is available for service activities. Member is covered by organization's vehicle insurance policy.
- Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record and ability to provide documentation.
- Project site is accessible by public transportation.
