Position Overview
This role will support development and analysis of restoration options for addressing BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill (DWH) injuries.
Responsibilities
- Organize and facilitate discussions on restoration technique development;
- Conduct research and writing to help develop restoration techniques and content for National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Oil Pollution Act (OPA) documents;
- Support technical and policy discussions with the NOAA case team and NRDA co-trustees to inform science and monitoring approaches; and
- Support senior RC staff in the development of approaches for the programmatic and project-specific regulatory compliance such as ESA and EFH consultations for DWH restoration.
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- 3+ years specialized experience directly related to marine policy and/or coastal/marine habitat restoration. Scientific and policy skills related to marine habitats or coastal/marine habitat restoration.
- Strong demonstrated oral and written communication skills relevant to science or environmental policy.
- Strong initiative, independence, and task management skills.
- Strong project management skills including project scheduling, budgeting, and ability to handle multiple, concurrent and competing responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience with fisheries management and knowledge of MSA and ESA.
Desired Skills:
- Demonstrated experience with marine mammal and sea turtle management and science, including knowledge of Marine Mammal Protection Act and ESA.
- Dispute resolution or conflict management skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of NRDA requirements under OPA.
- Demonstrated ability to implement marine habitat restoration.
- Understanding of the Northern Gulf of Mexico marine and coastal ecology, restoration needs and priorities, restoration techniques and options (including monitoring and costs and benefits).
- Experience working in a litigation sensitive environment.
- Experience working in government office.
- Must be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.
Education:
- BS in environmental science or policy, related discipline, or equivalent.
- MS preferred.
