Description

Earthjustice is the legal backbone for the environment. Founded in 1971, Earthjustice is the nation's premier nonprofit law firm for the environment with nine regional offices, an international program, a communications team, and a policy staff in Washington, D.C.

Our experience and track record enable us to mount strategic campaigns that result in lasting environmental protection: tackling global warming, fighting to preserve wild places and protect wildlife, and working to keep our air and water clean. Earthjustice assembles coalitions that drive broad environmental protection, prevent irretrievable losses, and ensure that the laws already on the books stay there and are put to work.

We currently have an opening for a Manager of our Intermediate Giving Program. The Intermediate Giving Program - similar to an Annual Fund in the collegiate setting - raises approximately $1million annually from donors making gifts between $1,000 - $5,000.

Position Overview:

The Intermediate Giving Program Manager is a key member of the development staff and manages this program to grow its revenue stream, oversee an integral mail program, and use relationship-based fundraising techniques to identify and cultivate individuals to make major gifts.

This position will work out of our headquarters in Oakland, California.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning and executing a mail program, including solicitation strategies, which may entail original writing, editing and working with a contract writer and a mail house.
  • Collaboration with members of the Major Gifts and Public Support teams in the execution of the Intermediate Giving program workplan, in particular on areas that overlap.
  • Cultivating relationships with current donors.
  • Conducting rudimentary research about donors to identify promising prospects for larger level gifts.
  • Administering benefits designed to increase donor awareness of and engagement in Earthjustice and its work.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of our programmatic work to ensure effective communication with donors.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of fundraising experience required including successful, sustained hand-on experience with an annual fund or similar program.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills required with the ability to earn the confidence of a wide range of internal and external constituents.
  • Excellent communication skills required including superb writing skills with demonstrated success in writing proposals, correspondence, and reports for a donor audience; demonstrated acumen in direct interaction with donors, either in person or via the telephone.
  • Experience with databases; experience with publishing software desirable.
  • Background in environmental issues desirable; commitment to environmental protection mandatory.

Compensation: We offer a mission and employee-focused work environment and a competitive compensation package including excellent benefits.
