Manager, Global Sustainability

Position Overview:

Enable and accelerate VF's Corporate Sustainability Program by implementing the sustainability strategy through the functional areas, such as supply chain, retail, GBT, HR, and distribution and with all the global brands.  This person will focus heavily on Resource Efficiency within the overall corporate sustainability platform.  This position will help facilitate global alignment of our sustainability strategy.

Responsibilities: 

The position will focus on data collection, measuring, reducing and reporting of our corporate energy, water & waste footprint. The position will work globally across functional areas and brands to manage our data and bring best practices to these areas.

• Energy: Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Manage the measurement, reporting and reducing of VF's global carbon reduction plan. Work with functional & brand teams to collect the energy & carbon data to implement the reduction plans, and track our progress. When possible assist in bringing best practices and cutting edge technologies to VF's energy reduction efforts.
• Waste: Eliminate Waste in Operations: Manage the measurement and tracking and reduction efforts across VF's global enterprise. Support existing projects and help find solutions to our material needs and processes. Create & communicate best practices in waste reduction around water, resource waste, electricity, paper, catering, and packaging.
• Water: Reduce Water use and ensure Water Quality: Assist our supply chain and product teams in developing, managing and implementing water reduction efforts and water safety efforts through out our product development process in our third party sourced supply chain as well as within our owned manufacturing.

Core Skills and Role:

• Coordinating and communicating our efforts internally and supporting the preparation of our external reporting and communication efforts. Working with the brand sustainability leaders to help facilitate and coordinate efforts to ensure we share learnings, leverage each others work and focus on meeting the corporate goals.
• Managing the data collection and analysis of our programs through data management software. Ensuring key stakeholders internally are engaged and informed on their efforts through this reporting tool.
• Working with and supporting the Sustainability Council and working groups to facilitate projects and manage work flows
• Support and develop as needed, sustainability education programs across the VF enterprise.

Qualifications: 

Key competencies:

• Technical Professional Knowledge: At least 5 years experience in Sustainability related fields. Exhibits technical knowledge unique to the function. Understand and has experience of managing cross-sector partnerships and in delivering sustainability programs.
• Strategic thinking: Is able to think strategically and develop plans accordingly to support business needs.
• Results orientation: Focuses persistently on outcomes, establishes goals, monitors progress toward them and achieves them.
• Effective Communication/Information Seeking: In order to understand actively listens and seeks first. Conveys information in an appropriate and compelling way. Can alter style of communication based on the audience and the circumstances. Written communications are clear, concise and focused.
• Market Knowledge: Knowledgeable in current and possible industry and business issues, policies, trends and information affecting the business and the organization. Knows the competition and marketplace.
• Flexibility: Has ability to adapt quickly to circumstances and issues which may arise and delivers results under pressure.

Job Requirements:

Years of Related Professional Experience:  5

• BS / BA Degree  or equivalent experience required
• Masters preferred: environmental science and/or MBA in Sustainable Business

Skills:

• Strong understanding of sustainability in a business environment
• Proven success in managing sustainability efforts within an organization
• Excellent organizational & project management skills
• Excellent communication skills (must be comfortable working with all levels of management)
• Experience in energy efficiency, corporate sustainability & reporting preferred
• Experience with some product development or merchandising preferred
