Position Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated closer to join our Development team.
The Major Gifts Officer plays a critical role in achieving the annual revenue goals for CLCV, by managing a pipeline of major donor prospects and working directly with senior staff to support major donor development activities in northern California. Primary responsibilities include: direct cultivation of a portfolio of 150-200 donors and major gift prospects; development of written materials for donor development and stewardship; and donor prospect research. This position works closely with a peer staff member and supports the Development Director and CEO.
In addition, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for identifying and hosting donor cultivation and solicitation opportunities through individual meetings, small events, and integrated communications (online and print), working in partnership with the Development and Communications staff to build messaging and outreach.

Responsibilities
- The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for directly soliciting and securing at least $100,000 in revenue per year.
- The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for overseeing and implementing strategies for consistent engagement of a segment of $500-$2,500 donors. This includes direct solicitation of gifts by phone and in person. Donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship will focus on building a robust major donor pipeline through consistent, integrated outreach that includes mail, email, events, phone and meetings, as appropriate.
- Identify donor engagement strategies for $2,500-$5,000 donors, in partnership with the Development Director, Political Director and CEO.
- Work with Communications and Political staff to secure project updates to use for personalized proposals that match donor interests and programmatic priorities, and for stewardship reports that detail progress made as a result of a specific funding source.
- Prepare and implement a fundraising work plan each fiscal year, identifying activities and milestones to help achieve the larger revenue goals of the Development department.
- Facilitate regular contact by CEO, Development Director, and Political Director of CLCV's most important donors, including scheduling donor meetings and preparing solicitation materials.
- Ensure appropriate donor recognition and benefits for all major donors; provide gift acknowledgements and stewardship reports for $5,000+ donors.
- Provide regular updates in Raiser's Edge and/or CallPro to reflect recent gifts and donor contact.
- Provide logistical support and staffing for two major gala events each year.
- In conjunction with senior staff, coordinate donor cultivation events, securing venues and speakers, and coordinating invitations and RSVPs.
- Monitor and communicate status and needs of donor events to staff, board, and volunteers to create a shared sense of success for fundraising goals.
- Meet, and seek to exceed, monthly and quarterly revenue and activity goals for meaningful contact with donors and successful solicitations.
- Assist the Development Director in providing feedback for board development committee and staff development team meeting agendas.
- Develop knowledge of programmatic priorities and stay current on key political and legislative issues affecting CLCV's work, in order to convey organizational needs and funding opportunities effectively to donors.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience making compelling asks and closing gifts. A minimum of three years' professional experience with progressive responsibility in donor/client cultivation and fundraising.
- Ability to organize and manage high volume of donor contacts and projects, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects independently, seeking input from others as needed.
- Experience working effectively with racially and ethnically diverse communities, partners, and allies, and share a commitment to the values of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Exceptional written and verbal communications skills.
- High level of technological competency.
- Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends, including occasional travel.
Preferred:
- Major gift solicitation and event managements experience.
- Superior professional manner and networking abilities.
- Background and/or interest in the environment and politics, including knowledge of environmental and environmental justice issues.
- Knowledge of Raiser's Edge software, CallPro, and expertise with spreadsheets (Excel) and mail merge (Word).
- Background in nonprofit organizations, including experience working with Boards of Directors and volunteers. Experience with both C3 and C4 organizations is a plus.
