FINCA LAPAS / MACAW REHABILITATION AND RESCUE CENTER
Finca las lapas is dedicated to the conservation of Costa Rican Psitacids (birds of the parrot family) since 1994. Though the implementation of captive breeding project for scarlet macaws, the aim is to assist with their conservation through the development of better understanding of how to breed and manage the species as well to possibly reintroduce them into the environment.
Location: Aranjuez, Puntarenas, Costa Rica.
Work description
Helping with the parrots maintenance (cleaning cages, breeding), research, environmental education with children of the community of Aranjuez, general fieldwork. .
Minimum time 1 month
Working Hours Flexible, but according to the season.
Spanish level Minimum - Conversational
Desired Skills
Biologists, veterinarians, but everyone interested in help and learn is welcomed. Volunteers will be located in cabins , with electricity and running water. Food and lodging Provided, as well as lodging
A Cost of $ 700 per month includes: Lodging / food in the communities or natural reserves during your entire stay. First / last night in a hostel in San Jose, transportation by bus from San Jose to the project, Pre- departure information packages (sent by email) Volunteer work placement, according with your preferences. Airport Pick up and drop off Arrival orientation and information packages. (maps, information about history, culture, security, health, etc.) Support from the staff during your stay in Costa Rica. Volunteer Certificate and letters of recommendation if required.
