~ Camphill Village Minnesota(CVM) is home to about 50 community members that include of adults who have developmental and intellectual disabilities. In this community, volunteer Coworkers live and work along side community members who have disabilities on 525 acres of organically nourished land. CVM is a non-profit organization and part of a worldwide movement. ~
Overview of Community Volunteer Position
Coworkers come from all over the world to be part of our community and to volunteer. Some come for one year for a gap after school and before starting their careers, some come seeking a new lease on life, and others come to settle down with their families.
At CVM we focus on capabilities, not disabilities. Everyone lives together in family-style homes and contributes to their ability in the village workplaces which include an organically grown garden, biodynamic farm, weavery, woodshop, bakery, arts, and herb shop. Each of us has something to offer in community. What will you bring to the table?
Responsibilities
- Coworkers are responsible for the well-being of those they live and work with. This could include:
- Personal cares
- Cooking meals
- Cleaning common spaces
- Emotional support
- Joining housemates in social outings
- Participating in house meetings
- Household and personal bookkeeping/accounting
- Taking others to appointments
- Leading or supporting workplaces around the village
Qualifications
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Direct care experience preferred
- Valid Driver’s License
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to lift 30 lbs
- Ability to perform well in environment that requires compassion, helpfulness, patience, and resourcefulness
- Willingness to learn
- Must be able to pass a background check
