Description
Midwest Environmental Advocates is a non-profit environmental law
center that provides legal services to community groups that are
working to protect the environment. Working in a green-designed
office in Madison, Wisconsin, we are a small, dynamic office of two
attorneys, up to two law student clerks, and 25 volunteer attorneys.
We work on a diverse caseload, from protecting our waters and air to
ensuring the government protects the public interest. Our legal
assistant is immersed in all phases of advocacy and litigation. Using a
blend of community organizing, education and legal and technical
assistance, MEA and its clients successfully protect the environment.
Duties:
We seek a legal assistant to provide legal and administrative support
for two attorneys and two law clerks, as well as community organizing
in multiple communities.
This is a full time position that requires time flexibility. Litigation
schedules are erratic and the legal assistant must be able to rearrange
work schedules, when necessary.
Qualifications:
- At least one year experience working with lawyers or paralegal
training; - Demonstrated organizational skills;
- Solid writing, editing and research skills;
- Ability to work independently;
- Proficiency with computers, the internet, database programs, MS
Office Suite, and Amicus timekeeping software; and - Demonstrated commitment to protecting the environment.
