The Center for EcoTechnology is a non-profit environmental organization which administers aspects of the Mass Save Home Energy Services program. We recommend to our customers potential energy efficiency measures for their homes. 

Position Overview:

This position provides technical advice, diagnostic testing, and verification of compliance with requirements in the LEED for Homes and ENERGY STAR homes programs.

The Green Rater must track project progress, keep up to date with changing program standards and provide excellent customer service. This position works directly with architects, builders and homeowners.

Responsibilities:

  • Verify compliance with LEED for Homes credits through documentation reviews and on site inspections
  • Organize and maintain accurate project files for each LEED client
  • Provide ongoing education and support to LEED for Homes clients
  • Research products and green building strategies for clients
  • Measure floor plans to determine areas of components
  • Evaluate home efficiency in REM/Rate software
  • Communicate program standards and recommendations to builders
  • Inspect homes for insulation and other environmental features
  • Run blower door, air flow, combustion safety and duct leakage tests
  • Install compact fluorescent light bulbs
  • Maintain Green Rater, HERS and BPI certifications as applicable 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum three years experience in the residential construction industry
  • Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater certification preferred.  Ability to gain and maintain HERS rater certification if not currently certified.
  • Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification preferred - ability to gain and maintain BPI certification if not currently certified
  • USGBC Green Rater certification or completion of USGBC green rater training preferred - ability to gain and maintain Green Rater certification if not currently certified
  • Traveling (approx. 50% of the time) throughout western Massachusetts, upstate New York and western Connecticut required
  • Flexibility and occasional long hours to meet client needs required
  • Passion for the environment and community involvement
  • Excellent communication skills - both written & verbal
  • Excellent organizational, time management and computer skills needed
  • Strong math and geometry skills
  • Knowledge of sustainable landscaping and site design desired
  • Knowledge of energy efficiency and green building principles required
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for 100 feet unassisted. 
  • Ability to work outdoors, in basements, crawl spaces and attics.  These locations often have extreme temperatures and poor air quality
  • Use of a reliable vehicle with adequate space for the transport of equipment

Compensation:  CET offers competitive pay rates and a comprehensive health plan which pays approximately 60% of the individual's health insurance costs. New employees accrue 10 days of paid vacation leave per year, 9 sick days and CET offers 12 paid holidays. This position will be a full-time, year-round salaried position with benefits based in either our Florence.
