Position Overview 

Burns & McDonnell Environmental Studies & Permitting practice is seeking a Lead Environmental/Restoration Project Manager to join our team in California. This position can be located in our Brea or La Jolla office.

We are seeking a dynamic individual who is capable of conducting and leading the planning and implementation of restoration and mitigation projects and programs. 

Responsibilities  

  • Primary responsibilities include working with the Southern California Environmental Studies & Permitting team to develop and grow a restoration and mitigation practice.
  • The position will involve considerable contact and interaction with clients, potential clients, owners and regulators; developing and training staff, with the goal of growing a restoration practice; and providing technical oversight of restoration and mitigation projects while working in the field and the office.
  • The ideal candidate will also have experience in natural resource management, including wetland delineation, functional analysis, freshwater and coastal wetland and endangered species act permitting at the local, state and federal level, report writing, wetland and other habitat restoration, and mitigation banking.
  • The position responsibilities also include business development, proposal writing, and other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor's degree required in biology, wildlife ecology, wetland ecology, botany or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years applicable experience required.
  • Prior consulting and client management experience are required.
  • Additional requirements include knowledge of California ecosystems and the California regulatory permitting process. 
  • Experience in the preparation of technical reports, including CEQA/NEPA documents, Biological Assessments, Jurisdictional Delineations, Mitigation Banking Enabling Instruments, monitoring reports, technical reports and/or memorandums.
  • Ability to lead a team in the field or in the office to complete a project or large task.
  • Ability to understand complex issues and regulatory pathways, inform client of range of options and assist with the cost, benefit and risk assessments.
  • Experience with business development, including tracking leads, development of contacts, preparation of proposals, scope of work, and budgets.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • In addition, must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges as outlined in the Company's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy.
