Since our inception in 1986, the Door County Land Trust has worked to preserve, maintain and enhance lands that contribute significantly to the scenic beauty, open space, and ecological integrity of Door County.

We have worked with scores of landowners to protect more than 8,500 acres of fields, forests, farmlands, orchards, wetlands and shoreline. Overview

The Door County Land Trust is seeking an individual to fill a full-time salaried position working in our Land Protection Program. This is a unique opportunity to develop your career in non-profit conservation and enhance your skill set while being inspired by the beauty of Door County, Wisconsin.

The Land Protection Project Coordinator/Specialist will assist the Director of Land Protection as part of the Land Protection Team to add more high priority conservation land to the 8,500+ acres already protected by Door County Land Trust since 1986.

  • Location: The position will be based out of the Door County Land Trust office in Sturgeon Bay. Start Date: September 1, 2021 (flexible) Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday. Occasional work required outside normal business hours, including two annual weekend events.

Responsibilities

Include, but not limited to:

  • Manage, coordinate, and track fee land acquisition projects;
  • Assist with land protection due diligence tasks including coordinating with real estate professionals, contractors and staff to secure and review necessary documents to meet deadlines (includes appraisals, options to purchase, letter reports and title commitments, surveys and legal descriptions, Phase 1 environmental site assessments, legal review and opinions, grant contracts, closing statements, etc.);
  • Manage land protection records including maintaining hard and electronic files and data entry into the land database;
  • Assist with preparation of land protection project packets for Land Policy Committee and Board meetings, including taking committee meeting minutes and documenting compliance with land program policies and procedures;
  • Assist with state and federal grant applications and reports;
  • Prepare tax status reports;
  • Assist with landowner outreach efforts and sharing information about conservation priorities and opportunities; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative attitude and work well as part of a team;
  • Ability to self-start and work independently;
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental or natural resources program or a related field such as real estate or law AND at least 2 years’ relevant work experience, advanced degree and/or additional relevant work experience with a land trust a plus;
  • Demonstrated skills in project management and coordination;
  • Experience with real estate transactions preferred;
  • Experience with grant writing or grant management preferred, especially with state or federal land acquisition grants;
  • Knowledge of conservation planning, general ecology, and WI natural systems preferred;
  • Familiarity with Land Trust Alliance Standards and Practices a plus;
  • Experience with landowner outreach and/or negotiations a plus; and
  • MS Office and database experience required; ArcGIS and Adobe Acrobat proficiency is desirable.
