Description

  The mission of the Winnakee Land Trust is to protect and preserve the natural agricultural, recreational, architectural, cultural, scenic, historical, and open space resources of northern Dutchess County.

Position Overview: 

The Land Projects Manager works with the Executive Direct to initiate and document land projects-primarily conservation easements with some trail easements and parkland management-and work with a dedicated committee to evaluate incoming projects.

Responsible for planning and implementing easement stewardship activities for properties owned or held under easement. Duties include producing initial maps, easement nominations,and baseline documentation; annual easement monitoring of all properties; outreach to easement landowners; working with volunteer committees to manage parkland owned by Winnakee.

Successful applicants will have strong administrative and organization skills; proven skill in GPS/GIS mapping technology; on the ground experience in conservation easement monitoring and management or other land conservation work.Organizing and maintaining WLT's stewardship files, including records of landowner contacts, site inspections, notices of violations, remediation agreements and remediation results, and photographic documentation.

Responsibilities: 

  • Visit property and prepare baseline documentation and GIS maps on incoming conservation easement projects, following WLT's baseline procedures.
  • Monitor and prepare annual monitoring reports on all conservation and pedestrian access easements, following WLT's monitoring procedures.
  • Produce annual parkland inspection reports.
  • Develop easement monitoring plans for new easement properties.
  • Maintain conservation easement binders, inventories, maps and files seeing to it that they are regularly updated.
  • Maintain accurate and backed-up records.
  • Establish and maintain good relationships with our landowners, including regular communications.
  • Implement adopted park management plans in coordination with committees.
  • Perform and oversee maintenance of trails and infrastructures.
  • Perform and oversee trails building.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Easement Committee to evaluate property proposed for Conservation Easement, using WLT's template and criteria.
  • Provide maps and resource analysis for incoming proposals.
  • Implement outreach strategies to increase acreage, based on WLT's priority area.
  • Inventory and develop GIS map habitats and natural attributes on easement lands, provide landowner with recommendations.

Qualifications: 

Strong organizational and technical skills, including a high level of proficiency in all standard software and GIS mapping technology. Ability to follow detailed written procedures accurately and keep impeccable records. Familiarity with land conservation and natural resources management. College degree or higher. Candidate must be physically fit to perform all essential physical demands of this job safely.

Ability to work closely with committees and in public outreach to effectively communicate and promote Winnakee Land Trust's mission and core work. Winnakee is an 'all hands on deck' organization; personal commitment is essential. Growth opportunity for the right candidate.
