Morris Land Conservancy is a nonprofit land trust organization founded in 1981 to protect open space in northern New Jersey. The Conservancy has helped to preserve over 13,000 acres of open space. We currently assist 32 municipalities in six counties preserve and protect land for recreation, conservation, and agriculture. The Conservancy is located in a beautiful park in Montville, N.J. and has a staff of 15.
Job Overview:
We're seeking to hire a Land Preservation Associate to join our conservation team to protect northern New Jersey's beautiful open space lands. The Land Preservation Associate will work closely with the Land Preservation Manager on assisting with land conservation projects and overseeing grant applications to finance land preservation projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in land conservation, and is dependable, organized, and a goal oriented team player who enjoys working with people.
Responsibilities:
The Land Preservation Associate offers support to the land preservation team and reports to the Land Preservation Manager. He/She is responsible for grant writing, project tracking, and managing data storage and retrieval. He/She also provides assistance to the President and Vice President and works on special projects as needed.
Grant Applications
- Collaborate with team of eight Land Preservation staff to coordinate and produce grant applications.
- Post and track grant schedules and deadlines for staff. Develop a system to manage and communicate the information.
- Assist in the management of student interns.
Project Tracking
- Assist with year-end reports for properties protected, acreages, prices paid and costs.
- Report the project expenditures including appraisals, contract and soft cost amounts, funding partners and the breakdown of expenditures.
- Update and manage land acquisition database.
- Monitor and manage paper and electronic files.
- Develop reference and training material for Land Preservation Staff.
- Coordinate with Development staff to assist in grant applications and project summaries for foundation grants.
- Update and manage Conservancy's land acquisition history and materials
Occasional Assistance with Due Diligence
Assist other Conservancy staff members with special projects as needed (time permitting)
Required Skills:
- Experience preferred in conservation, land use planning, or public policy
- College degree in an environmental or natural resource protection field of study, public administration, or planning
- Excellent writing and organizational skills
- Able to complete projects with minimal supervision
- Computer experience: Word, Excel, Publisher, Access
Start Date: Position is available immediately - effective February 1, 2008
