The Regulatory Assistance Project (RAP) is a global non-profit organization whose mission is to help policy-makers and regulators develop and implement policies that will improve the environmental sustainability and economic efficiency of the energy sector.  Formed in 1992, RAP hasworked with public utility regulators and energy and environmental officialsacross the U.S. and Europe, China, Brazil, India, Namibia, Egypt, and a host ofother countries.

Specifically, RAP focuses on strategies that:

  • increase investment in cost-effective energy efficiency, clean distributed generation and demand response, and renewable energy;
  • integrate energy and environmental regulation to improve air quality; and
  • establish policies and regulations that effectively address climate change.

Position Overview:

RAP seeks an energetic and tech-savvy assistant to support its growing research and communications teams. The assistant will assist RAP's research and communications managers and team of policy analysts in the daily managementof the internal research library, as well as the external dissemination of their work online. The assistant will work closely with RAP's knowledge management and IT consultants to implement systems and technical solutions, and provide end-user support and training.

The successful candidate will demonstrate both an analytical approach to troubleshooting and problem-solving and the interpersonal skills required to effectively train and support users. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong technological acuity seeking an entry-level position in the energy or non-profit management fields.

Responsibilities:

The assistant will perform the following and other duties as assigned:

Knowledge Management:

  • Provide administrative support for various research database activities and initiatives.
  • Using Windows SharePoint Services and Portal Services, support the implementation of various system solutions including work flow and business process design.
  • Participate in the development of an intranet library, including procedures for document management, content indexing, personalization, workflow and access to content.
  • Support the collection of research data; input data into a digital knowledge management library.
  • Review, classify and categorize all research-related materials; write brief abstracts of all documents approved for inclusion in the internal and external sites; assist in posting materials to RAP's internal and external websites.
  • Build and manage a knowledge base system (FAQ's, How To Guides, etc); write and maintain system documentation and knowledge base content.

Knowledge Communications:

  • Provide tech support for external communications such as webinars, video conferencing, etc.
  • Post content and maintain web information resources.
  • Assist with contact management and the electronic distribution of RAP's knowledge.
  • Provide technical assistance to the communications manager related to information architecture and content management systems.

User Support:

  • Provide training and support to staff on the use of knowledge management and communications applications.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for troubleshooting technology issues or questions.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant will possess, at a minimum, the following skills and qualifications:

  • 1+ years of relevant work experience in an administrative or office support role.
  • Interest in and aptitude for applying technology to organizational issues; experience with Content Management Systems, databases, web editing or SharePoint preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in an environmental, technical, or related field.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team structure.
  • Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills; ability to explain complex or technical concepts to an inexpert audience.
  • Self-motivated, with excellent time management skills and the ability to balance competing priorities.
  • Dedication to advancing the economic and environmental sustainability of the power sector.

Compensation: The expected start date for this position is January 2011. The position will be located in Montpelier, VT.  RAP offers an excellent benefits package and a competitive salary that is commensurate with experience.
