A positive force in Southwest Florida for over four decades, the Conservancy has preserved more than 300,000 acres of land, introduced environmental education into the public schools, and taught more than one million people about the importance of conserving the environment.

The Conservancy uses policy, science, and education to ensure sustainable growth and a healthy, prosperous future for Southwest Florida's natural environment. The Conservancy's Wildlife Rehabilitation Center rescues more than 2,500 injured animals each year. Today--more than ever--the Conservancy remains the influential voice for the environment taking action to protect natural resources and make Southwest Florida a better place.

In addition to an environmental policy, advocacy and scientific research, this progressive organization includes a nature center and a wildlife rehabilitation center.

Opportunity Specifics:

Whether leading interpretive canoe, boat, and beach programs for children and adults, implementing weeklong environmental specialty day camps for students, teaching ecology of south Florida to school children, working with the environmental policy staff to monitor development and environmental governance boards, or assisting science staff in research projects such as monitoring sea turtles, this is an ideal place for interns to gain knowledge and experience in the field. Approximately fifty interns are hired throughout the organization each year.

Qualifications:

Minimum senior in college or recent grad w/background in biology, ecology, conservation, wildlife, research, environmental education/science, or marine science. Eager learners preferred.

Availability:  Internships rotate in/out every 6-9 months, so applications are always being accepted. (Summer Camp May-August only)

Perks, Benefits, and Stipend:

Besides receiving a very rewarding hands-on educational experience, a stipend of $150 per week of service is awarded . Perks include optional free housing with washer and dryer, uniform shirts, accident insurance, and Conservancy membership.
