Description

The Center for a New American Dream is looking for a one-year intern to assist its Institutional Purchasing Program in cutting edge work helping state and local governments and other large institutions buy environmentally preferable products and services. This is a one-year position paying $1,250 a month with a 4-day workweek (Monday-Thursday, 9-5). Additional benefits include medical insurance, four weeks paid vacation and reimbursement for commuting via public transportation. 

Responsibilities include: 

* Gathering and analyzing the latest data to promote environmentally preferable purchasing in specific product areas. Current research areas include cleaning products, hybrid electric vehicles, paper, renewable energy, and computers.
* Contacting constituents to generate involvement, gather information, and solicit feedback on various initiatives. This includes telephone research and participation in in-person meetings.
* Researching and writing to keep institutions current with information on environmentally preferable products and services. The writing would be used for our website, publications, newsletters, media pieces, presentations, etc.
* Supporting staff as needed in facilitating communications between two offices, attending meetings, organizing individuals and events, performing administrative work, etc. (approximately 25% of time). 

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred); excellent research, writing, and verbal skills; basic quantitative skills; flexibility; the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously; and the ability to work well both individually and as part of a team. Familiarity with environmentally responsible business practices and products, the automotive and paper industries, and/or renewable energy is desirable.
