Position Overview:

Our Control and Industry Solutions team in Harrisburg, PA currently has an opening for an Industry Manager, Electric Power who will develop and execute the vertical market sales and marketing strategy for the electric power industry.

As an Industry Manager for Phoenix Contact you will place a special focus for alternative energy industries:  solar and wind.  This will include electric transmission and distribution (T&D) industries including those associated with "smart grid" work and initiatives.  Additional focus will be placed on Phoenix Contact's more complex technical products when sold as industry solutions.

Responsibilities:

Other responsibilities include:

  • The growth of sales to the power generation and electric transmission and distribution industry and assigned accounts and the successful solutions developed and sold to the power generation and electric transmission and distribution industry.
  • Manage all vertical marketing and sales aspects of assigned industry focus and scope.
  • Direct the activities, objectives, practices, deployment, etc of the assigned focus industry sales and marketing team.
  • Coordinate with the US based CIS Market Development solution team and the CIS-HQ solution team to define and realize industry solutions based on market and customer specific requirements related to the assigned focus industry.
  • Manage departmental budget and expenses according to corporate guidance.
  • Develop marketing and sales strategy (including industry segmenting) for Phoenix Contact industrial components, systems, and solutions to the assigned focus industry. Execute effective marketing campaigns and tactics.
  • Build relationships with key focus industry influencers, i.e., system integrators, "lead" end-users, OEMs, sales channel partners, industry thought leaders, and media partners.
  • Design and implement application and solution based industry training to the industrial sales organization and channel; including "train the trainer" approach to deliver Phoenix Contact value propositions to focus industry customers.
  • Responsible for vertical industry market branding efforts and development of key value propositions based on Phoenix Contact industrial components, systems and solutions for the assigned focus industry.
  • Responsible for the management and development of departmental direct reports: Project Engineers (PEs), Industry Sales Managers / Engineers, and others TBD.
  • Responsible for producing sales forecasts for assigned focus industry and possible assigned CIS accounts.

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role candidates will have the following experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or proven equivalent background in the application, sales and / or marketing of automation or control components and systems (e.g. industrial wireless, Ethernet infrastructure and networking components, controllers and PCs); preference for a Masters of Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 8 years work experience within the industry, preferably in product marketing, industry marketing, project management, or business development roles.
  • Knowledge of key customers, applications and professional contacts.
  • Proven entrepreneurial skills focused on fulfilling corporate sales and marketing goals.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office: PowerPoint, Word, Excel.
  • Detailed marketing-analytical and reporting skills
  • Working knowledge of industry technical subjects, standards, and approvals.

Essential Job Functions:

  • 25% - 40% Travel Requirement.
  • 2% - 5% Overseas Travel Requirement.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit and / or stand for extended periods of time (2-4 hours at a time).
  • Must be able to work on a computer for extended periods of time (up to 4 hours at a time).
  • Must be able to travel in vehicles (automobiles, trains, and planes) for up to 10 hours.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in verbal and written English.
