The Hong Kong/China Director of Advisory Services will provide overall direction and management for BSR's presence in Hong Kong and China.  The Director must demonstrate leadership, vision, and possess an entrepreneurial spirit and ability to work independently.  The primary responsibility of the position is the delivery of consulting, training, and information services to BSR's member companies operating in the region, with an initial focus on supply chain related issues. The Hong Kong/China Director will also be responsible for managing related grant projects focused on China and Hong Kong.  The role is also responsible for building and maintaining relationships with strategic members of the CSR community, including NGO's, academics, government representatives and other relevant organizations, and to track trends and emerging issues that influence companies CSR efforts. This position reports to the Industry team leader for BSR's Consumer Products team, and works also with other members of BSR's Advisory Services staff. 

Specific responsibilities include:

         Direct the current China Training Initiative (CTI) program, including coordination of workshops for factory managers and supervisors, establishment of strategic alliances with key training partners, liaison with selected government officials, communication of progress and learnings with key stakeholders, and management of grant requirements.

         Build and maintain effective communication with BSR's member companies operating in the region.

         Develop and provide consulting services to multinational companies and their supply chain partners to help them develop and implement policies and practices designed to ensure fair treatment of workers

         Seek opportunities to build collaborative efforts between companies and between companies and stakeholders to develop innovative solutions to issues affecting the implementation of labor standards and other CSR issues.

         Gather and communicate to BSR's staff globally information about critical CSR issues affecting companies operating in China.

         Represent the organization externally.

Participate in BSR program planning and strategic development, generally for the organization, and specifically for Asia.  

 

Experience

         Five to ten years professional experience, including management of multiple, complex projects involving diverse stakeholders.

         Direct understanding of and experience working on CSR issues relevant to China, with a particular emphasis on labor rights issues facing multinational companies and their supply chains.

         Other Asia experience / knowledge a plus.

         Business experience, including extensive knowledge of decision-making processes, operational issues, sourcing and supply chain process, imparticular in the consumer products, information technology and automobile industries.

         Experience with and understanding of the dynamics of public, private and non-profit sectors and how those sectors can most effectively intersect.

         Effective communication both written and oral.  Ability to create presentations and publicly speak at conferences, seminars and member company convenings. 

         Strong organizational, budget skills and attention to detail

         Experience living and working in Asia

         Willingness to live and work in Hong Kong or China for at least two years, and travel up to 25 percent of time.

         Fluent English required; fluent Mandarin preferred
               High ethical standards
