Position Overview:

North Cascades Institute seeks a qualified, enthusiastic individual to become the Group Program Coordinator for its field campus in North Cascades National Park. Based out of the North Cascades Environmental Learning Center in Diablo, WA, the coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing a plan to generate earned income through the use of the Learning Center as a conference site to support our other mission-based programs.

This position coordinates and manages the Group Rentals program including recruitment, contracting, hosting the groups while on-site, and program evaluation. The coordinator will have the opportunity to inspire and motivate our guests to make changes within their daily lives that positively affect their communities and our environment.

The Group Program Coordinator provides instructional support for other Institute programs. This position will have some responsibility for overnight supervision of the Learning Center campus and has the responsibility to apply good judgment and discretion, particularly with the welfare and safety of all participants.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with Program Outreach Coordinator to facilitate group rental sales
  • Effectively communicate with potential clients about features, advantages and benefits of this unique facility as well as services, programs and pricing structure
  • Host successful group rental programs
  • Negotiate and create contracts, schedule rentals and coordinate details with Learning Center staff
  • Ensure fulfillment through follow-up communications with clients
  • Track sales and earned income through Salesforce database
  • Meet annual operational goals, including earned income goals. Track income and expenses for Group Rentals, assist Program Director with preparation of annual program budgets and routine reports
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to create marketing content and materials, publicity materials and distribution plans
  • Oversee the development, planning, implementation and evaluation of group rentals
  • Collaborate with program staff to manage these programs effectively and efficiently
  • Coordinate program logistics and operations with clients and Institute staff
  • Serve as a host, instructing naturalist, field guide, etc. for group rentals and other Institute programs as required
  • Assist in all facets of Learning Center programs and operations (e.g., maintenance, host) as needed
  • Participate in Institute's program, risk management and Learning Center teams as needed
  • Participate in strategic planning, inter-office communications and other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Operations Director and/or Executive Director

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree required
  • Experience in and enthusiasm for sales; sales of services (i.e. hospitality) preferred
  • Commitment to superior customer service with 1 year of experience
  • Ability to network and build relationships
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentations, phone and email
  • Solid computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office software; database experience a plus
  • Excellent time management and problem solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Ability to work full days and evenings; weekend work will be required
  • Must be creative, energetic, flexible, motivated and professional
  • Possess a sense of humor and enjoy working as a cooperative team player
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Passion for learning and teaching about the natural world; environmental education or related experience preferred
  • Ability to work and live comfortably in a small community
  • A pre-employment or post-hire background screening and criminal history check
  • Current Wilderness First Responder certification required
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to hike over varied elevation and uneven terrain for extended periods

Compensation: This is a full-time, exempt position. We offer a competitive compensation package; benefits include paid time-off, medical/dental insurance, life insurance and disability, and tax-defined annuity and contribution retirement plans. Housing may be available for rent on or near campus; pets and smoking are not allowed in housing or at the Learning Center. The Learning Center is located in North Cascades National Park and is approximately 20 miles from the nearest gas station and post office, 60 miles from towns with full amenities.
