Description
It is the intention of American Jewish Committee (AJC) that its headquarters building located in New York City, prepare for re-certification of LEED EBOM. LEED is an internationally recognized certification system that measures how well a building performs energy savings, water efficiency, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources. LEED EBOM is a green building certification for operation and maintenance of an existing building. AJC received LEED gold certification in May of 2011 and will need to re-certify in 2016.
In support of this intention, the Facilities Department would like to have an intern to coordinate various projects to save energy through reducing electricity and work towards USGBC LEED EBOM 2012 requirements. The particular tasks and skills are enumerated below.
Position Overview:
The intern will work as part of a team to develop lighting and a lighting control plans that will include project goals, current fixtures and controls and recommendations that comply with LEED EBOM 2012 and city codes. The intern will evaluate products. The person will identify low cost improvements that reduce energy and operating costs of our building.
He/She will perform basic analysis, research, collect data, provide records and write descriptions as part of providing documentation. The intern will complete a plug load survey and make recommendations to reduce AJC's plug load. The final project report will include a description of accomplishments and an analysis of projected cost savings.
Qualifications:
- Interest in environmental issues
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to conduct research using the Internet
- Must be a self-starter
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and knowledge of Photoshop preferred
- Some science or engineering courses preferred
- Green Associate certification preferred
This is an unpaid internship, reimbursement for travel expenses is offered.
