Description
The Center for EcoTechnology works with businesses statewide who want to green their operations through a variety of measures including energy conservation/efficiency, recycling and composting.
Position Overview:
This position will work with these businesses to identify the greatest opportunities for both cost savings and improving environmental performance and help the business achieve their goals. This position reports to the Green Business Assistant Manager within the Green Homes, Schools and Businesses Department and is based in the Florence office. This position will require frequent travel in the Pioneer Valley with flex office space in our Springfield location. Additional travel state-wide is likely.
Responsibilities:

- Responds to businesses interested in greening their operations with enthusiasm and creativity.
- Excellent listening skills required and the ability to adjust the message and range of service offerings quickly in response to the needs and reaction of business owners, managers and facility personnel.
- Provides outreach, education and technical assistance with the ability to manage diverse and changing projects and programs.
- Creates and presents waste reduction and energy efficiency programs to businesses.
- Assists commercial and industrial businesses in taking advantage of the MassSave commercial program and state resources for energy and cost reduction.
- Works with businesses in the field to create diversion from commercial waste generators and foster infrastructure development for the collection, hauling and processing of compostable materials.
- Communicates a working understanding of separation and collection mechanisms for commercial generators of various recyclable materials.
- Responds to resource management questions via phone and email about energy efficiency/conservation, renewable energy, environmentally preferable purchasing, disposal, composting and recycling.
- Presents green business information at business association meetings, religious institutions, meetings with town/city officials and one-on-one with business owners, managers and property owners.
- Researches, designs, and updates fact sheets on energy efficiency, waste prevention, toxics use reduction, and environmental health topics.
- Remains up-to-date on scope of work and deliverables under grant funded program.
- Assists in compiling information to track results and produce reports for customers and funders.
Qualifications:
Requirements:
- College degree and 3 years of related sales, technical, or energy efficiency experience
- 2 years of customer service and public education/speaking experience
- 2 years of computer experience working in databases, desktop publishing, spreadsheets, and word processing
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation
- Professional appearance and professional communication style in business settings
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience speaking to business owners, facility managers and all levels of staff in a wide range of business types.
- Ability to convey information in a straight forward unbiased way and adept at helping implement incremental change.
- Working knowledge of state and federal energy programs and incentives and preferred experience working through these processes in the commercial sector
- Working knowledge of state waste management plan, regulations and implications for compliance by businesses and waste haulers and processors.
- Ability to work independently and in an organized way. Demonstrated ability to track and report results.
- Knowledge and experience researching information (online, print and telephone)
- Work-style - flexible, self-directed, professional, hard-work ethic, patient, works well independently, with others, or as team leader
- Attention to detail, good problem solving skills and observational skills
- Ability to accomplish tasks within timelines
Compensation: The Center for EcoTechnology offers competitive pay rates and a comprehensive health plan which pays approximately 60% of the individual's health insurance costs. New employees are eligible for health, dental and disability insurance after 30 days of employment. New employees accrue 10 days of paid vacation leave per year, 9 sick days and we offer 12 paid holidays. This position will be a full-time hourly position with benefits based in our Florence office.
