~ Urban Green Council's mission is to advance sustainability in the urban built environment through our education, advocacy, and research. ~

A non-profit organization established in 2002, Urban Green Council, the largest urban chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, has quickly grown to a full-time staff of almost 20. Our in-house experts and a dedicated network of volunteers are helping to transform the built environment in New York City with models that can be replicated in urban centers nationwide.

We are acknowledged as the premier forum for the development of environmentally sound building practices in the greater New York area, and our input is sought on major policy issues and regulatory initiatives in New York City and New York State. More information can be found on our website.

Position Overview

Advance
the green building movement nationwide through education.

Urban Green Council seeks a marketing
professional to advance the green building movement through education programs.
The Manager will have a direct impact on the green building movement, driving
the advancement of the construction industry in the United States. With U.S.
buildings consuming over 40% of the nation’s energy, this position offers the
opportunity to play a critical role in cutting the nation’s carbon emissions
and leading the building industry towards sustainability.

GPRO is Urban Green’s flagship education program,
teaching construction workers and building operators what they need to know
about green building to ensure building performance matches design. With consistent
high ratings and only 5,500 trained in an industry of hundreds of thousands, the
program is poised for enormous expansion.

The Manager will bring GPRO to local
and national organizations, including unions, building owners, real estate
companies, construction trade unions, USGBC chapters, contractors,
subcontractors, and associations.

Urban Green is NYC’s go-to
organization for green building education and advocacy, twice managing blue
ribbon building code commissions on behalf of the city, most recently following
Superstorm Sandy. The organization has averaged over 30% annual growth in staff
size and budget for the last seven years, allowing for deeper impacts and
broader reach. The Manager will be a critical addition to the team in
continuing this growth.

The ideal candidate will have proven sales and
negotiating skills, an outgoing and flexible attitude, a strong interest in the
building/construction industry, and a high attention to detail. S/he will be a
self-starter with the ability to think through problems and identify forward-thinking
solutions.

This position offers some travel and will allow the right marketing
or business growth professional the opportunity to take the industry’s most
impactful education programs to new heights and horizons. This position reports
directly to the Chief Operating Officer.

About
Urban Green’s Educational Programs

GPRO is a series of courses and
exams that teach the people who build, renovate and maintain buildings the
principles of sustainability and trade-specific green construction knowledge.

GPRO fills a critical gap in the world of green building by completing the circle
between green design, construction and operations, engaging audiences who are
not otherwise reached by the case-study seminars typical of green building
education. GPRO is delivered via GPRO Delivery Partners, which include USGBC
chapters, building trade unions, employers, workforce development organizations
and community colleges.

Conquering the Energy Code
is a series of courses that teach Architects and Engineers the
basics of sustainable design and strategies to comply with ever more stringent
energy codes. These courses will find engaging ways to motivate participants to
incorporate sustainability into their design process.
