Everyday Green provides third-party testing and verification services for multiple green home programs including LEED for Homes, NAHB's National Green Building Standard, ENERGY STAR for New Homes, Indoor airPLUS and ENERGY STAR Multi-Family High Rise.

Position Overview: 

Work with multiple project teams throughout Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC on third-party green building certification. Responsibilities include field testing, analysis and diagnostics of new & existing buildings, analyzing improvements to building envelope systems, communicating green building concepts and techniques to clients, and performing advanced diagnostics.

This position requires a self-motivated professional that has the ability to problem solve, communicate clearly, think creatively, and absorb building science concepts quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Energy modeling from plans and construction documents.
  • Performing energy improvement analysis and making recommendations to clients.
  • Design review of green building features.
  • Performing site visits to verify appropriate insulation levels and installation of program measures.
  • Communicating program standards and recommendations to builders, architects and homeowners.
  • Running blower door, duct blaster and flow rate tests.
  • Performing home energy audits including diagnostic testing and completion of audit reports summarizing findings, financial analysis and recommendations.

Certification Opportunities:

Chance to obtain Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst certification and Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rater certification. Everyday Green can proctor exams and provide training materials. Note that HERS certification requires mandatory training course to be taken at intern's expense if desired.

Qualifications:

  • Education in building-related fields such as building science, architecture, construction, or engineering preferred.
  • Home renovation or construction experience desired.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. Self-directed with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity or experience with building science principles.
  • Familiarity with green building standards and program requirements including LEED for Homes and ENERGY STAR version 3.
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for 100 feet unassisted.
  • Ability to work outdoors, in basements, crawl spaces and attics. These locations often have extreme temperatures and poor air quality.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate fluctuating inspection timing.
  • Excellent computer skills and communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Strong math and geometry skills and ability to read construction documents and plans.
  • Environmentally minded with a commitment to sustainability.

Compensation: Wage is $12/hour, with an average of 20 hours of work per week.
