Description
The American Jewish Committee, a New York City advocacy group for human rights, is pursuing LEED certification. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a rating system developed to increase building efficiency and sustainability. The American Jewish Committee wishes to become the first non-profit in the City with LEED certification.
The Green Building Council is using innovative strategies to support environmental preservation Initiatives. Be part of a growing number of organizations learning the latest way to save energy, improve building performance, reduce air pollution and increase occupant satisfaction.
Position Overview:
Intern will work as part of a team to identify low cost improvements that reduce energy and operating costs. The Intern will collect data and provide documentation to NYS authorities and the Green Building Council on AJC progress toward certification. This will include research, writing narratives, and preparing documentation. He/She will assist in finding products that are certified green and monitor staff usage. He/She will assist in developing an educational video or PowerPoint presentation on the green certification process. The Intern will be invited to attend meetings, take notes, and prepare minutes. He/She will coordinate and enhance the organization's recycling program.
Qualifications:
- Interest in environmental issues
- Excellent writing and speaking skills
- Ability to conduct research using the Internet
- Knowledge of Physics, math and Chemistry helpful
- College graduate preferred
Hours are flexible, minimum of 25 hours.
