Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced professional to join our Building Science Practice to manage and deliver green consulting services to major clients of the firm.
This technically proficient team player is an extremely well organized project manager, possessing the ability to coordinate consulting on multiple projects and manage multiple stakeholders to create something great! Candidates must be technically knowledgeable, highly organized, and have good delegation skills. The ideal candidate will also have excellent oral and written communication skills and enjoy working with diverse project design teams and building owners. Some travel is expected.
Responsibilities:
As Consultant you will:
- Manage multiple green building projects and project teams, creating and maintaining work plans and deliverable schedules.
- Review, guide, and present technical analysis (daylight modeling, energy simulations, materials recommendations, etc.) created by others.
- Guide inexperienced and advanced teams (internal and external) through a LEED design documentation process that produces more than the plaque.
- Use your industry experience to guide internal technical experts to produce deliverables that create leverage for change
- Lead charrettes and create innovative best design and building practices and tools.
- Compile technical research, develop investigative approaches, write reports and create presentations on sustainability topics that have logical, clear, and evidence based arguments
- Create green value propositions that include both tangible and intangible benefits tuned to the needs of decision makers
- Coach building owners or design teams through an integrated design, valuation, and value engineering processes
- Work on non-standard building types, such as neighborhood developments, industrial processing plants, and net zero energy/water projects
- Lead business development opportunities through proposal development, contract negotiations, interviews, presentations, and industry outreach events
Qualifications:
- A degree in architecture, engineering, or allied field. Masters preferred.
- LEED Accredited Professional a plus
- 6+ years professional experience with clear career progression and experience in green building, including:
- Project management experience in proposal generation, leading project teams, providing client service, and managing to budgets.
- Conceptual and analytical design, strong writing skills and technical publishing ability.
- Advanced knowledge of high performance building design and construction parameters and LEED Rating Systems, with direct experience in at least 2 of the following areas:
- Site: Master planning, Campus development, landscape and building system integration, civil and LID strategies
- Water: Black/grey water treatment systems, rain harvest strategies, cooling tower water use, water balance modeling, and system sizing
- Energy: Building science, concept design for active and passive systems, envelope expertise, ventilation effectiveness, sequences of operation for hybrid systems, modeling skills a plus; and monitoring, verification and evaluation of building performance
- Materials: Specifications, recycled and non-toxic content, alternative building materials and manufacturing processes, code compliance.
- IEQ: Space planning, daylighting, ergonomics, air quality, green materials, human ecology.
- Economics: Estimating, cost shifting, net present value, life-cycle and return on investment calculations and economic valuation of intangible benefits (safety, health, productivity, etc.).
- Behavior: Influence the behavior of people to achieve energy, water, and employee engagement improvements through occupant controllability of systems, purchasing and training.
- Ability to prepare and deliver oral presentations to individual clients and training seminars, clearly and effectively communicating complex ideas.
- Expert user of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Acrobat, PageMaker.
- A sense of humor and a knack for innovation, problem solving and negotiating positive results.
