Golden Spike National Historic Site

Position Code GSNH5-1 

Start Date: April 2005 

 

This is an opportunity to be a part of history. Golden Spike National Historic Site was established in 1965 to commemorate completion of the world's first transcontinental railroad which was finished on May 10, 1869. The transcontinental railroad united our country, changed the course of American history and had more far reaching consequences than any other technological advance in our nation's history and remains one of the greatest engineering feats ever undertaken. Every summer Golden Spike NHS offers weekly reenactments of the famous Last Spike Ceremony. Website: www.nps.gov/gosp Responsibilities include: research, develop and present interpretive programs, 35%; work in the park's visitor center, provide visitor information and perform fee collection duties, 35%; assist with special events and school groups, 15%; work in the library and with the museum collection, 15%. Training/Educational opportunities: interpretation, interpretive safety, CPR, AED First Aid and on the job training. There may also be opportunities to participate in living history reenactments. Desire: high level of interest working with the public and developing customer service and public speaking skills; open to new experiences; good sense of humor.
