General Manager, Capital Bikeshare

Bicycle sharing is a sustainable, healthy, and community-based transport option that enhances urban livability and mobility. Capital Bikeshare currently operates with over 100 stations and 1000 bikes in Washington DC and Arlington VA, with system expansion planned in both jurisdictions in 2011.

Through contracts with the Washington DC Department of Transportation (DDot) and Arlington County VA, Alta Bicycle Share is responsible for all "on the ground" aspects of Capital Bikeshare, including but not limited to: station and bike building and deployment, station and bike repair and maintenance, and bicycle redistribution.

We are currently seeking a General Manager to oversee all aspects of our Capital Bikeshare operations.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee all aspects of Alta Bicycle Share DC operations including customer service, vendor, and client interaction.
• Hire, train, schedule, and manage employees. Delegate tasks as needed.
• Manage multiple subcontracts.
• Develop, execute, and share operational best practices.
• Identify and share opportunities for efficiency.
• Identify and address key strategic barriers and opportunities critical to the success of local operations.
• Forecast expenses, and manage a budget.
• Respond to requests from project officers and your manager(s).
• Ensure OSHA compliant workplace and practices.
• Ensure contractual obligations are met or exceeded.
• Ensure reporting metrics are met, and where needed, improved.
• Ensure reporting is complete and timely delivered to project officers and managers.
• Ensure a positive relationship between Alta Bicycle Share and Capital Bikeshare project officers.
• Ensure overall success and future growth of Capital Bikeshare.

Qualifications:

• College degree in business administration, engineering, transportation or related field required. Advanced degree a plus.
• 7+ years experience managing and prioritizing multiple conflicting demands of staff, contractors/vendors, budgets, and clients in a fast paced environment.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Valid driver's license.
• Intimate knowledge of DC Metro area.
• Leadership skills: experience inspiring and motivating employees to successfully achieve operational goals.
• Interpersonal skills: maintain confidentiality; remain open to others' ideas; demonstrate willingness to try new things.
• Adaptability: enthusiastically adapt to changes in the work environment; manage competing demands; deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
• Dependability: Follow instructions; respond to management direction; communicate frequently; solicit feedback to improve performance.
• Passion for bikes, efficiency, alternative transportation and/or sustainability a plus!
• Sense of humor required.
