The Conservation Law Foundation (CLF), a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, and New England's leading environmental advocacy organization, works to craft effective, long-term solutions to environmental challenges in the fields of ocean conservation, climate change, clean water, healthy forests, and sustainable communities and environmental justice.

Position Overview:

CLF is seeking an experienced Full-Charge Bookkeeper.  The Bookkeeper is responsible for ensuring that the financial processes are as efficient as possible and in keeping with GAAP and all CLF finance and administration policies.  The Bookkeeper handles Accounts Payable and Cash Receipts related to three business entities (two non-profit, one for-profit) in five locations.  The Bookkeeper also assists the rest of the Finance department, provides financial support to all CLF staff, and handles special financial reporting requirements as necessary.

This very detail-oriented and organized individual will be responsible for executing a wide range of transactions, which include the following:

  • Preparing bank deposits 
  • Processing A/P, A/R, and expense reimbursements
  • Allocating monthly credit card bills to appropriate accounts and departments
  • Researching vendor inquiries
  • Reconciling timekeeping software with financial software
  • Creating and maintaining company records and files of paid invoices, contracts, IRS forms, and other paperwork.
  • Providing friendly and high-level service to departments within the organization, including assistance with coding, filling out forms, or other issues. 
  • Assisting the VP of Finance and Admin, and staff accountants in projects related to CLF's annual audit.

Qualifications:

Bookkeeping:  Candidate must be familiar with standard double-entry bookkeeping and GAAP requirements, able to produce and understand financial reports, and have experience working in computerized accounting systems (familiarity with Blackbaud's Financial Edge or other non-profit software a plus).

Account reconciliation:  The Bookkeeper is required to keep three Accounts Payable balance sheet accounts reconciled, and assist with other reconciliations as needed.

Computer:  Candidate must have computer proficiency, preferably in a Windows PC and MS Office environment.  Intermediate to advanced Excel skills required.

Organizational:  Ability to set up and maintain a standard filing system for all accounting records.

Time management:  Ability to work well under pressure, set schedules and meet deadlines.  Ability to learn new skills quickly, retain new knowledge, and apply knowledge to new tasks.

Communication:  Excellent written, oral and reading comprehension skills required.  Candidate should be able to explain procedures clearly, and to maintain and improve current documentation of all financial procedures. Ability to detect and manage small details, yet understand how they fit into a larger context.

Education and Experience:  A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Accounting, plus at least three years of bookkeeping or accounting experience is required; a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. Experience with non-profit and fund accounting is a major plus.
