Position Overview
The Four Forest Restoration Initiative Program Associate will work with the Conservation Director and external partners to help plan and implement landscape-scale forest restoration efforts across the Mogollon Rim.
Responsibilities for this position include providing assistance to and leadership within the Four Forest Restoration Initiative (4FRI). The position requires creative thinking, problem solving, and communication skills in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently.
Responsibilities
- The Program Associate will assist in moving forward the Four Forest Restoration Initiative, an ambitious collaborative effort to implement landscape-scale forest restoration across four national forests (the Coconino, Kaibab, Tonto, and Apache-Sitgreaves) that span 2.4 million acres in northern Arizona. Specifically, the associate will bolster collaborative planning efforts for 4FRI's second phase NEPA by:
- Synthesizing information (spatial, literature, etc.) that can bolster the quality of planning;
- Identifying and helping to find collaborative resolution to issues of concern arising within NEPA planning;
- Supporting multi-party monitoring efforts; and
- Supporting communication and outreach efforts.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Excellent writing and oral communication skills. Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to review and understand science and integrate it within planning and project implementation efforts.
- Ability to work constructively with a wide variety of colleagues, members, volunteers, the general public, board members, and public officials.
- Ability to keep a number of activities moving forward simultaneously.
- Knowledge of strategic issues related to the nexus between restoration science, management, policy, and politics is highly desirable.
- M.A or M.S. degree in an environmental field and five years' experience or equivalent working in a conservation and/or restoration-related field preferred.
